Limnology and Oceanography e-Lectures
Many ASLO members use electronic media to prepare lectures for teaching. As a service to its members, we are initiating Limnology and Oceanography e-Lectures. e-Lectures are prepared by experts on particular topics, both special and traditional, and are peer reviewed. They may be particularly helpful to ASLO members as they develop new courses, lecture on topics outside areas of expertise or when it is time to reenergize familiar lectures. The e-Lectures are intended to serve as a resource for member educators and researchers, to assist them in bringing the most recent and cutting edge science and non-traditional teaching techniques into undergraduate and graduate aquatic science courses. Lecture delivery is PC and Macintosh compatible with each lecture designed to be given within a 45-minute period. Descriptive information is provided for all lecture slides to facilitate usage and each lecture is accompanied by an instructor/student supplementary reading list. The series includes lectures relevant to both limnology and oceanography and will benefit not only ASLO members but also their student audiences. There are three categories of lectures in the series. “Fundamentals” in Limnology and Oceanography are a suite of lectures meant to be used for a full semester in limnology or oceanography foundation type courses. "Special Topics” in Limnology and Oceanography are broad overview lectures on a specialized topic designed for one class period. “Contemporary Issues” in Limnology and Oceanography are lectures on topics that are ‘in the news’. Both a broad overview lecture (one class period) as well a small suite (i.e. three to five class periods) of more detailed lectures are offered with the Contemporary Issues lectures.
The first peer-reviewed lectures are now available. In some cases, a lecture may be linked to multimedia files in order to play (these files are included in the ZIP file).
Full lectures are available to members only. Partial PDF versions are provided as previews of the complete Powerpoint lectures. Please click on the "view more details" links below.
