Student Opportunity Announcements
Summer Intern Program - Chesapeake Bay and Beyond
Program Dates: May 27 – August 4, 2012.
Each year we accept 10-12 undergraduates for a summer
research experience at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science
(VIMS), which overlooks the York River estuary, near the
southern end of Chesapeake Bay in Gloucester Point, VA.
Internships are available in many areas of marine science,
including marine biology and ecology; biological, geological,
chemical, and physical oceanography; environmental science;
fisheries; and resource management.
Preference is given to rising juniors and seniors, but we will
consider rising sophomores who are well prepared. No prior
experience is necessary, but you should have solid skills in
math, preparatory science classes and a willingness to work
hard to make the most of the internship opportunity.
Interns receive a stipend of $5,000 for the 10-week program,
as well as housing and partial to full travel costs to and from
the program from home or university. Accommodations may
be made for those anticipating the need for a later start date.
To learn more about the program, faculty mentors and apply
on-line, please visit our website or contact us directly via e-
mail.
The School of Marine Science at VIMS is part of the College of
William and Mary. VIMS is committed to building a diverse
and inclusive community of marine scientists. The VIMS
Summer Intern Program is supported by the National Science
Foundation.
